Different seasons require different support

One of the biggest misconceptions in the coaching industry is that there is one “best” type of support.

In reality, different containers solve different problems. The right fit depends on where you are in the business, the type of pressure you are actually carrying, whether you need strategic clarity or immersive recalibration, whether you want private support or the intelligence of a shared environment, and how quickly you need to move.

This article breaks down the four core containers inside The Feminine Edge — the Strategic Intensive, Executive Coaching, the Inner Circle, and the Retreats — and helps you self-identify which one fits the season you are actually in. Not the offer that sounds most impressive. The one designed to hold what you are navigating now.

The question is rarely “which offer is best?” The better question is: “What kind of support does this season of business actually require?”

The Strategic Intensive — for founders who need clarity quickly

The Strategic Intensive is the focused, high-proximity strategic engagement.
It is not ongoing coaching. It is rapid recalibration — designed for founders who need concentrated strategic thinking, focused decision-making support, and a full twelve-month strategic plan produced in a compressed window.

Best suited for:

• Founders at a decision point who need clarity before moving further
• Businesses experiencing growth complexity that needs strategic redesign
• Established owners with too many directions and no clear priorities
• Women who can feel the business needs to change but cannot see clearly from inside it
• Founders who want strategic perspective without committing to a longer container yet

What women leave with is not more ideas — it is fewer, better ones. A prioritised sequence of strategic decisions, refined positioning, a business model that fits where they actually want to go next. A business strategist for women at this level is not a source of frameworks. She is a thinking partner who can see the whole architecture and help you decide which pieces to keep, evolve, or remove.

This is strategic business coaching for women who need clarity now, not over a year. Sarah Huntley described the outcome directly:

Choosing Mel as my coach has been the best decision I’ve ever made. I started from a place of overwhelm and constant rushing around. After three months, I had a strategy, a plan, and more importantly a feeling of confidence and calmness. I am making more money than ever in my business — and the change has been beyond what I ever expected to achieve.

— Sarah Huntley, Performance Psychologist & Olympic Team Performance Coach

Executive Coaching — for women leading at high levels

Executive Coaching is the private, high-level container for women operating under significant leadership pressure.

Where the Strategic Intensive is compressed and focused, executive coaching for women is sustained and personalised. Twelve-week cycles across the arc of a year or more, with twice-yearly in-person strategy days and voice note access between sessions for the moments strategic conversations cannot wait for a calendar slot.

Best suited for:

  • Senior founders and established business owners navigating complexity
  • Women leading teams, boards, or operations at scale
  • High-performing professionals facing major transitions or scaling pressure
  • Women who want private thinking space, not a group room
  • Founders who want strategic and personal leadership support held in the same conversation

The work is strategic, psychological, leadership-focused, and deeply personalised. Private coaching for female founders at this level is not a framework applied to every client. It is a bespoke thinking partnership designed around the individual woman and the specific arc of what she is navigating.

Leadership coaching for women at this stage focuses on identity evolution, burnout prevention, strategic decision-making, sustainable growth, and the deeper work of navigating major change without losing yourself in the process. It is business coaching for women who need depth, privacy and continuity with one strategic mind across the arc of the next chapter.

Rebecca Hamilton described the working relationship:

Mel’s approach is refreshing, authentic and generous. She supports and enables a growth-focused environment in the best possible way — with creativity, trust, transparency and collaboration. She encourages a way of doing business differently, to positive effect. I couldn’t recommend her more as a coach, partner and advisor.

— Rebecca Hamilton, Founder & C-Suite Marketing Leader

The Inner Circle — for women who need strategy and environment

The Inner Circle is the twelve-month container for women who want strategic support, peer intelligence and community held in the same environment.

The key distinction: the transformation happens not only in the coaching. It happens in the room.
Best suited for:

  • Founders craving strategic support alongside community
  • Women who have been building alone for too long
  • Founders wanting sustained momentum, accountability and shared ambition
  • Women ready for a twelve-month commitment to one integrated container
  • Business owners who value proximity to peers building at similar altitude

The Inner Circle is a business mastermind for women that combines monthly mastermind circles, private coaching elements, in-person events, and the Scotland retreat included as standard, as well as priority access to the annual Sri Lanka retreat. Coaching for female entrepreneurs held inside an ecosystem — strategic input, peer intelligence, and retreat in one architecture.

A female founder mastermind at this level is not a networking group. It is a small room of women operating at similar levels of responsibility, held for long enough that the conversations that change your year become possible. This is business coaching for women whose next chapter requires more than one voice — who need the intelligence of the whole room, not just the coach.

Beryl Preuschmann put it directly:

The magic and power of ‘the group’ was and is incredible.

— Beryl Preuschmann

Deborah Craig joined the Inner Circle a year ago, having lost several key lines of business. The group room and the Scotland retreat became the inflection point that catalysed her move to Italy, the launch of her own retreat business, and the fully booked cohort she hosted this spring. The room, in this container, does work that no individual coaching engagement can.

The Retreats — for women who need space to think again

The Rewilding in Scotland and The Renaissance in Sri Lanka — are the immersive strategic reset for women who need space more than they need more conversations.

Retreats are not only escapism. They are strategic interruptions to chronic pressure.

Best suited for:

  • Women feeling overwhelmed, overstimulated, or unable to hear their own thinking clearly
  • Founders needing perspective they cannot find inside the daily environment
  • Leaders craving clarity and spaciousness rather than another weekly cadence
  • Women who know something needs to shift but cannot yet name what
  • Founders who need to step out of operational survival mode to think about the next chapter honestly

A women’s business retreat, done well, creates conditions everyday business life makes impossible.

Nervous system regulation. Uninterrupted thinking space. Emotional spaciousness. Strategic perspective on the business the founder has been too close to. Proximity to a small room of women who understand the pressure without needing it explained.

Business retreats for women, at this level, are commercially intelligent decisions. Not indulgent. The clarity that comes back with a founder after a properly designed retreat tends to compound over the following months in ways operational continuity cannot.

Kaori, who joined me in Sri Lanka, put it as directly as anyone can:

Thank you Mel and everyone here for the beautiful experience and helping me claim part of my soul that was missing — it has returned to me now.

— Kaori, Creative Director & Founder, Harajuku Kitchen

The real question is not “which offer is best?”

The real question is: what kind of support does this season actually require?

Practical self-selection:
If you need immediate strategic clarity: the Strategic Intensive. Focused, compressed, results-oriented. Best when clarity is what you need most, in weeks not months. A strategic intensive at this level produces a full twelve-month plan without committing you to ongoing work.

If you need private, high-level ongoing support: Executive coaching for women at this stage of leadership. Sustained, personalised, deeply confidential. Best when you want one strategic partner across the whole arc of a year or more.

If you need community, peer intelligence and long-term proximity: the Inner Circle. Strategic support, mastermind circles, retreat included as standard. Best when isolation has become the problem — or when you know your growth requires the intelligence of the right room.

If you need space, nervous system reset and strategic perspective: the Retreats. Immersive, environment-led, restorative and strategic in equal measure. Best when the daily environment has become too full for the thinking you need to do inside it.

Some women move between containers over time. A founder may need one thing now and something different six months later. This is a strength of the ecosystem, not a complication.

These offers are designed to work together

The ecosystem is intentionally designed to work together.

A founder may begin with a Strategic Intensive when she needs immediate clarity, then move into Executive Coaching for the longer arc of implementation and leadership recalibration. An Inner Circle member may attend the Renaissance retreat to work through a specific decision at greater depth.

Someone in Executive Coaching may take a retreat mid-year to create the spaciousness a particular chapter of the business requires. A strategic intensive often becomes the diagnostic that helps a founder identify whether she actually needs ongoing support, or a more immersive environment, next.

The point is not that any one container is complete. The point is that different containers hold different layers of the same work, and choosing the right one for now does not lock you out of the others later.

You are not choosing a support format for the rest of your career. You are choosing what this specific season needs.

The higher women rise, the more strategic support matters

There is a pattern I see repeatedly with the women I work with.

The higher you rise in leadership, the more strategic support matters — and the less that support looks anything like generic coaching.

At this level, complexity increases. Decision fatigue increases. Visibility pressure increases. Isolation increases. Emotional load increases. The cost of unclear decisions rises with the stakes. The founder’s own energy becomes more directly connected to the business’s capacity to grow sustainably, because the founder herself is now the constraint at the top of the architecture.

Support at this level is less about motivation and more about strategic clarity, leadership calibration, nervous system sustainability, environment, perspective, business architecture, and decision-making capacity. As I have discussed in press coverage of these dynamics — including in The Guardian and Business Insider — the structural pressure women in leadership are asked to sustain is genuinely different from the challenges of earlier stages. It requires different support.

Business support for female founders at this level is not a bigger version of what worked at seven figures. It is a different order of work. Private coaching for female founders, leadership coaching for women, and the wider ecosystem of retreats and mastermind spaces are about matching the complexity you are carrying with the container designed to hold it. The best business strategist for women at this stage is the one who understands both.

The right container should match the woman you are now — not the version of you who started the business

You do not need to choose the offer that sounds most impressive. You need the environment that matches what this season is asking of you.

The right container should match the woman you have become — not the woman who started the business. Both matter. But the one leading the business now is the one whose season deserves to shape the support.

Executive coaching for women, the Strategic Intensive, the Inner Circle, and the Retreats each serve a specific version of the work. The right one is the one that fits where you actually are — the complexity you are carrying, the clarity you are needing, the way you know you work best.
